HR Manager - Leading Multinational FMCG Subsidiary

Position Specification
THE ORGANISATION
Our client is based in Industrial Area, Nairobi and is the local subsidiary of a leading international food-manufacturing group.
The group has been creating delicious breakfast cereals since 1932 and has Manufacturing sites in the United Kingdom, Canada, United States, South Africa and Kenya. Our client has been manufacturing breakfast cereals in Kenya for over 30 years. The Company markets an outstanding range of brands that dominate the cereal market with a massive 70% market share. This is the largest share of its industry’s retail categories.
With over 100 employees, our client supplies supply markets across East Africa including, Uganda, Tanzania & Rwanda. Over the last 6 years the Company has successfully leveraged on its household name by implementing an aggressive marketing strategy, which has resulted in improved top-of-mind awareness, depth of distribution and an impressive sales growth. Competing in a highly competitive market, this innovative organization has pushed the boundaries to expand both its product range as well as its markets. Harnessing its global brands it has segmented the market and offers a range of products through well-established trade channels in the region.
THE LOCATION
Nairobi, Kenya.
THE POSITION
The HR Manager will manage various personnel policies that affect people at work. This will include industrial relations, employee relations, working conditions, equal opportunities, leave, absence management and grievance procedures.
Reporting to the Managing Director, the HR Manager’s key focus areas include:

·       Employee Relations
·       Recruitment
·       Learning, Training and Development

·       Performance Management
·       HR Administration
Key responsibilities include:
HR Management
·       Together with the Managing Director formulating HR strategies, policies and processes, which enhance the vision and mission of the company.
·       Continuously reviewing HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance to statutory obligations and codes ofpractice.
·       Consistently advising the Managing Director and line managers on changes and requirements of the Kenyan Legislation regarding employment matters.
Industrial Relations
·       Guaranteeing application of Labour regulations.
·       Attending hearings on matters related to wrongful dismissals/terminations and implementing court rulings affecting members of staff.
·       Providing advisory services to management on industrial relations and discipline matters.
·       Participating in the negotiation and implementation of the Collective Bargain Agreement with the union.
Employee Relations
·       Giving guidance and advising on best Employee Relations practices and industrial relations management.
·       Ensuring harmonious employee relations are maintained through employee participation and involvement
·       Responsible to the director for all internal employee communication.
·       Ensuring that welfare committees’ companywide are run in accordance with company policy.
·       Liaising with the relevant Government departments or union to safe guard company interest on industrial relations matters.

Recruitment
·       Proactive workforce planning to attract talent for both short and long term in close liaison with the line managers.
·       Carrying out a job analysis and update the job descriptions and person specifications. Make known open positions by advertising open positions both internally and externally.
·       Reviewing applications and recommending a long-list to recruiting line manager to review and shortlist.
·       Inviting appropriate interview panel members and managing the interview administration process.
·       Obtaining reference checks prior to engagement and coordinating the pre-employment vetting process.
·       Developing and maintaining a recruitment database with a view to reducing recruitment costs and turnaround time.
Learning, Training and Development
·       Preparing the annual training plan and budget. Controlling and ensuring maximum utilization of training resources through accurate identification of programs to meet business needs, and post training follow-up.
·       Designing and managing the delivery of training and development programmes based on the organization’s needs to meet the broad categories of technical skills, leadership development, cross training and personal development.
·       Assessing effectiveness of training, monitoring, evaluating and reviewing the progress of development programs.

Reward Management
·       Developing reward management and remuneration policies, processes and procedures that are internally equitable and externally competitive.

Performance Management
·       Developing and coordinating a performance management system in liaison with line managers.
·       Reviewing Personal Development Plans for training needs and performance gaps.
·       Working closely with supervisors on improvement plans for non-performers and identifying opportunities for growth for high performers.

HR Administration
·       Administration of the Human Resource information system.
·       Leave Administration
·       Pension and Benefits.
·       Implementing the HR information system in conjunction with the Finance and IT departments and maintaining up to date personnel records.

EXPERIENCE & BACKGROUND NEEDED
·       A graduate in Business, Social Studies or Human Resources Management.
·       Expertise in Kenya Labour Law and Employee Relations.
·       Computer literate with proficiency in MS Office Suite.
·       At least five (5) years experience in a Human Resource generalist position in a large to medium organization.
·       Experience in Industrial Relations / Collective Bargaining is essential.

OTHER VITAL QUALITIES
·       Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills.
·       Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing solutions to complex employee relations problems.
·       Contemporary knowledge of legislation and issues relevant to employee.
·       Strong negotiation skills.
